Qube Facilitates the Export of Local Movies to New Markets Around the World

The growing diaspora communities around the world are hungry for content that reflects their home culture.

While 2023 saw the movie industry firmly step out of the COVID slump, it has also demonstrated a marked shift in content preference. Big-budget franchise movies that had been driving the box office for the past decade did not have the same pull. Many of the movies that have done well in this new landscape are those with new stories -- regional tales steeped in history and culture. And the growing diaspora communities around the world are hungry for content that reflects their home culture.

Generally speaking, foreign markets have been slow to react to this change because information about these new movies is not easily available. Qube has found a large number of ethnic-speaking communities in regions like North America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia underserved. To better understand this problem, Qube commissioned a study of foreign language communities in the United States and the number of movies that cater to these markets. We have shared these results with Cinemark and Regal, and we are connecting those chains to additional films with positive results so far.

Qube is working with Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Korean content owners to connect them with experienced distributors in North America, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia.

If you are either an exhibitor that is interested in playing more international content or a distributor that is interested in reaching more screens in Qube Wire's network, please email contentpromotion@qubewire.com.

We look forward to growing this important segment of cross-border distribution of movies.
